Difference between pillars and pilasters
The key difference between a pillar and pilaster is that when used in architectural terms, a pillar is a large post, often used as supporting architecture while a pilaster is a rectangular column. This only partially projects from the wall to which it attached, Pilasters give the appearance of a support, but are only make for decoration.
